Geographical relevance

Brno has a continental climate with warm summers and cold winters. It is located in the Brno Basin that is surrounded by hilly terrains (peripheral parts to the northeast and west of Brno). The rivers Svitava and Svratka, which flow through the city, do not notably impact the functioning of the transportation system.

Cultural relevance

Brno's population is predominantly composed of ethnic Czechs, with a small population of people with diverse ethnic backgrounds, such as from the Roma community (roughly 3%). There is a significant Slovak community in the city. The presence of students contributes to the city's vibrant and youthful atmosphere. Brno's religious landscape is characterized by a mix of Christian denominations, small religious communities, and a predominantly secular population.

Policy relevance

The city has adopted a SUMP since 2018, addressing traffic telematics in the context of traffic organization and management, as well as the support of car-sharing and carpooling. It does not specifically concentrate on autonomous vehicles or the required infrastructure. In the strategic document #brno2050, autonomous mobility is mentioned as one of the innovative transportation solutions within the goal of "Supporting and implementing innovations in transportation".

Target user groups and stakeholders

The target user groups in the Brno are commuters (students and workers) and residents. The stakeholders that will be engaged are governments, municipalities, local authorities, academia and NGOs.
