Policy relevance

The Emilia-Romagna region has an integrated approach to mobility governance, primarily addressing accessibility concerns. It seeks to minimize and streamline travel, promoting more sustainable modes of transportation by e.g. behavioural measures. At the regional level, the key instrument for implementing these strategies is the Regional Integrated Plan of Transports (Piano Regionale Integrato dei Trasporti - PRIT). Despite the Region's aspirations to enhance sustainable transportation in the area and promote a shift towards public transit, this endeavour faces particular challenges in towns like Carpi. Here, a significant portion of the population comprises commuters, and most of them heavily rely on cars for their daily transportation needs.
